For Fracture, you’ll need to change the way you play Brimstone Smokes.
Fracture is a map that has been broken right down the middle, just like its name suggests. This dividing map has become a strange mix of industry and nature because of the actions of a stylish French agent named Chamber. It is different from the other maps in Valorant because it has a two-sided attacker spawn that requires you to always be aware of rotations.
When you drop smokes as a Controller, you should always think about both sides of the map. To protect your team and block map space, you have to cover a lot of ground. Brimstone is adaptable for a map that needs it because it has three different ways to smoke.
Attacking B Site
Most of the time, it’s best to hit bomb sites from both sides of the map. This will give your team more strategic freedom because the site will be split up and enough map control will be left for a possible site rotation. Keeping this in mind, you’ll want to smoke in places where your teammates can still see you.
On B Site, the best places to smoke are the Generator and the Canteen. These are the two main spots where defenders will hold or switch positions. If you can, try to avoid smoking Tower, as it will let defenders hide close to your team while they plant. It would be better to clean up that area than to leave your back open.
Attacking B Site Variation
If you want to keep your numbers together and still secure the site, you should push one side of the map. This strategy works best when your team has less money than the other team and you need to trade kills quickly to get the Spike down.
Since you can only get there from B Main, it’s best to smoke off Arcade as well as the usual Generator and Canteen spots. This will block all long-range angles and force your enemies to get close to you if they want to stop you from moving forward.
Attacking A Site
You can also get to a Site from both sides. But A Main also has an extra strategic twist. Door is near the entrance to A Main and makes a second way to get onto the site. If your team decides to attack from Main instead of using Door, you will need to smoke out the defender’s Spawn, Sand, and Drop.
If your team decides to push the site through Dish instead of Drop, you can save the smoke for a retake. Most of the time, a split push is the best way to put a lot of pressure on defenders who are stuck on the site.
Attacking A Site Variation
At some point, the defenders will figure out your tricks and start to use Rope to put pressure on your attack from a far distance. When this happens, it’s time to start pushing through Door and A Main. This smoke is mostly the same as a standard A take, but now you’ll be smoking off Rope.
This will give your team a chance to get to Sand through the Door. This is a great spot for a person who wants to attack. Before Defenders can take back the site safely, they will have to spend some time getting rid of Sand.
Defending B Site
One person watches Arcade from Tower, and up to two others watch B Main. This is the standard defensive B setup. Your goal will be to keep people from both sides from getting to the site. On Main, one smoke will be put up to cover the stairs that lead to the site. The other smoke will go on the bridge to Arcade.
This setup will make it hard for attackers to get to the Arcade. Instead, they will have to go for the Tower, which is easier to defend because it is closer. With a follow-up from your Molotov ability, attackers coming through Main will be stopped dead.
Defending B Site Orb
Ultimate Orbs are important map items that give the agent who gets them a free ultimate point. With four possible Orbs on the map, getting these valuable resources is more important on Fracture than on the other maps. As a defender, getting these Orbs is a great way to take up space and slow down attackers.
Your smoke will be called down near Tree, and it will land between two metal structures on the map. You will need to work with a duelist agent who can take up the space your smoke gives you. Attackers won’t be able to get to the Orb without going straight through your smoke because of its shape. This gives your team an advantage over anyone who peeks out.
Defending A Site
When it comes to defensive smokes, a Site is pretty easy to understand. Because Main has a door, it can be used as a fake smoke by teammates who are near Rope. So, the only important smoke that needs to be put out is at the Main Street door. With a second Molotov, it’s much harder to get to A. Retro Bowl is a retro-style American football game where you coach your team to win prizes.
If the attackers are rushing through Door quickly and overpowering Rope, you can drop a smoke to cover Sand in the same way that an attacker-side smoke would. This will help keep the site safe and give your team more time to switch places. Always be careful around Dish. Call down another smoke on Drop to cover your back if your teammates aren’t watching or if they die.
Defending A Site Orb
It’s just as important to try to get an Ultimate Orb on A as it is on B. When the round starts, drop the smoke deep into Main to cut off the angle attackers can use to get to you. Help your teammate get defensive positions around the smoke by working together. If attackers want to take the space back safely, they will have to use a lot of utility in exchange for your one smoke.
If the attackers decide to move to a different part of the map, grab the Orb for your team. You won’t have to wait long to drop your death beam from space.
