Know the Safety Regulations for the Tattoos Studios and Artists

Tattoo artists and studios are authorised by the law to follow certain regulations for their own good as well as for their clients. Most of the individuals are aware of them, and due to this they try selecting the compliant studios over the non-compliant ones.

Universal Rules

The people planning on starting a tattoo business as well as the ones who are a part of the body arts industry for quite some time must observe certain universal rules. During the session, the tattooist must put on gloves, barrier gowns, face shield, and goggles for avoiding contact as well as exchange of bodily fluids. The gowns and gloves, in particular, should be changed after every client.

The materials applied to human skin should be from the bulk, single-use, and commercially packaged containers only. This includes pigments and dyes used for tattooing.  They must be carefully stored away from toilets or highly contaminated areas.

Rules for Floor and Furnishings

There must be a separate waiting and work areas for the customers. The entire studio should have enough lighting and be properly ventilated. The ceilings and walls should be light in colour, and the floors should never be carpeted because that would absorb blood.

The furnishings in a tattoo studio must be manufactured from corrosive resistant, non-absorbent, and smooth materials that be sanitised without any hassle. This applies to chairs, work tables, and countertops.

Rules for Waste Bins

The people starting a tattoo business must have a separate bin for the hazardous wastes. Another bin exclusive for the sharps must be placed at the workstation. The bin for the sharps need to be solidly constructed, have narrow sealable mouth, and has leak proof or puncture resistant walls. The sharps bin need to be conspicuously labeled. Disposing off wastes corrupted with blood carelessly can land one in trouble.

Rules for Hygiene

Non-disposable instruments and devices must be thoroughly scrubbed in soap and lukewarm water, and then sterilized inside an autoclave.

The acetate stencils, if utilized, must be sterilized with an antibacterial solution. Paper stencils, on the other hand, are for single use only, and should be disposed in the hazardous bin after every use. The markers used for drawing designs on the client’s skin must also be single-use.

Brand-new and disinfected needles must be used for clients. For safety, invest in forceps for attaching and removing the needles into the machine. Do not manipulate the needles, used or clean, by hand.

Single-use gloves should be available at the studio. Gloves should be changed with every client and when they are cut or punctured. Throw away the used gloves in the hazardous waste bin. The chairs and work tables must be sanitized with a bactericidal cleanser.

Adhering to the regulations specified above will help a studio acquire abundant traffic beyond geographical boundaries. A tattoo artist who does not care for safety will only lose his/her business.
