It is asked to calculate your date of conception and the estimated date of delivery.

The pregnancy is estimated in weeks and most of the babies are born at the time of 38-42 weeks from the date of conception. At the time of your visit, the doctor will perform the pelvic exam, order for different tests such as blood, urine, STDs, HIV and many others. The doctor will suggest taking supplements for vitamins, folic acid, calcium and iron.

Alcohol – Consuming alcohol is harmful to the pregnant woman and the baby that may cause Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). This syndrome leads to abnormalities such as poor growth of the baby, congenital diseases and impaired development of the brain. If the expectant mother consumes alcohol then it gets absorbed in the bloodstream. It then passes through the placenta and enters directly into the baby.

Exercising

During pregnancy, exercise is good for the health of both the mother and the baby. Doctors generally recommend doing some less effective activities such as swimming, walking and yoga.

Sleep

Getting enough sleep is very important for pregnant women. This is the time when a woman must make the habit to sleep on the left side. With the progress in pregnancy lying on your side by bending knees will become a comfortable position to sleep.
