Self-assessment is a vital skill for students and professionals as it creates a link to their personal and professional development. Self assessment in an individual occurs when they make judgments concerning aspects of their performance and also contributes positively to lifelong learning. Self-assessment allows a student or a professional to take responsibility of their learning and will hence allow them to take control and ownership of the approach in which they meet their development needs. For a professional including lawyers, healthcare practitioners, and engineers, and so on, self-assessment assists them to determine their strengths and gaps between their knowledge, skills and experience and consequently acts as a scaffold to build their portfolio. The following section describes the findings of self-assessment of a worker.

The self-assessment determined that the employee has good qualities as well as professional and personal values of a great worker in an organization. The worker undertakes all their tasks effectively without necessarily having a supervisor to oversee what they are doing. This aspect has greatly contributed to the trust that they have build with supervisors. The worker is also described as a great individual is because they carry out all the tasks that they have been assigned while following the instructions provided. On the case of this employee, the individual has no warnings or suspension or has never had their job being terminated due to misconduct or other behavior. Also, there is evidence of a good worker in which the person has acted well and interacted efficiently with others. The worker has been awarded and recognized several times for showing exemplary skills and knowledge necessary in working in the organization. Employees, who follow instructions and procedures of undertaking tasks in organization, play a critical role in the success of a company and lead to improved performance (Robbins & Judge, 2003).

The self-assessment also determined that the worker collaboratively undertakes their tasks in cooperation with other involved stakeholders in the firm including supervisors, partners, and fellow colleagues. The self-assessment determined this good personal value through making observations of the relationship that exists between the worker and their supervisor or any other employees. For instance, the worker was seen making consultations with both supervisors and subordinates before carrying out a task that involved them. Communication and also work collaboration are essential for the success of all industries as well as promote innovation and creativity in a company which is significant in the survival of business as well as gaining a competitive advantage (von Davier, Zhu & Kyllonen, 2017).

The self-assessment also revealed that the worker has a proper mental set that is necessary to assist a person to take the role of a mentor. Mentorship refers to a form of socialization for professional roles in which a mentor creates a relationship with a youth(s), usually in the same field. The mentor teaches, guides, supports and develops the mentee for a certain period so as to allow them grow professionally. The proper mental set was observed from the manner in which the worker was carrying themselves. The mentor also showed personal interest in helping others grow and develop their knowledge and skills in that field so as to be able to fully realize their full potential and major life goals. The worker also has extensive skill and knowledge that they can share and teach a young professional.
