When purchasing LED displays, we often come across promotional slogans for HDR displays. So, what exactly is HDR, and what is SDR? What are the differences between HDR and SDR?
HDR Meaning:
HDR stands for High-Dynamic Range, meaning a high dynamic range. In comparison to regular images, HDR provides a broader range of colors and image details, enhancing the contrast between light and dark, presenting a true-to-life image, and achieving extremely high image quality.

HDR Application:
HDR was initially applied in the field of photography and later extended to areas such as mobile phones, televisions, LED screen displays, and other display technologies.
In photography, when the exposure time is too short, bright areas can be accurately reproduced, but details in darker areas may not be visible. Conversely, with a longer exposure time, darker areas can be faithfully reproduced, but bright areas may become overexposed. To address this issue, HDR technology was introduced. In simple terms, it involves taking several pictures with different exposure times and then automatically or manually combining them to significantly restore the overall true environment.
HDR technology requires both HDR content and display devices that support HDR.
HDR-enabled mobile phones, HDR televisions, and HDR displays support the display of high-dynamic-range content, enhancing the brightness range and presenting more delicate image details.
HDR Standards:
The standards for HDR include HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma).
SDR Meaning:
SDR stands for Standard Dynamic Range, indicating a standard dynamic range. In comparison to HDR, SDR images lack comprehensive details and a wider color range. In SDR images, overexposure leads to the loss of information in brighter parts, and underexposure results in the loss of information in darker parts.
